National Team Support Staff

The National Team has a coaching staff to help them prepare and compete at the FISO OCR World Championships (FISO WC). Both positions are volunteers through USAOCR. 

National Team Head Coach

 This role seeks to provide the best experience for the USAOCR National Team athletes. The role seeks to ensure the best possible representation and performance of the National Team at the 2025 FISO WC (September 11-14, 2025).


The National Team Head Coach Application is a one-year contract with an extension option available, pending a maintenance of good standing with USAOCR and World Obstacle. Good standing is based on adherence to the USAOCR Code of Conduct, effective coaching performance at competitions, and remaining up-to-date on athlete development (e.g. certifications, etc.) and athlete support. 


Role Responsibilities:

  • Provide on-site support and act as a resource for elite athletes during the event.

  • Participate in all coach and delegate engagements at the FISO WC

  • Oversee a staff consisting of Track and XC Assistant Coaches

  • Act as liaison between USAOCR Board of Directors and National Team athletes

  • Plan training opportunities and provide training guidance and support to all National Team athletes including para athletes throughout the 2025 competition season.

  • Direct communication with World Obstacle (WO):

    • Manage all athlete protests
    • Communicate with WO regarding any athlete penalties or disqualifications
    • Communicate all rule and timing updates to athletes
    • Ensure the team's compliance with all rules regarding personal conduct during the Championship. Team Manager will escalate any concerns for behavioral misconduct to the USAOCR Board of Directors for further consideration.
  • Fulfill all FISO USA Delegate duties and responsibilities, including attending all relevant meetings.

  • No financial responsibilities.  Any financial decisions related to the team must be approved by the USAOCR Board of Directors prior to any purchases and/or commitments.

General Requirements:

  • Must have a valid passport that remains valid for at least six months after the 2025 FISO World Championship concludes.

  • Excellent administrative, communication, and organizational skills.

  • Competent in effectively communicating via email, phone, text, or other messaging platforms

  • Proven ability to handle multiple moving parts at a world level event and ability to delegate tasks to team personnel.

  • Proven ability to establish and maintain harmonious relations with athletes and other team personnel.

  • Must participate in the required anti-doping training by the first day of the 2025 FISO World Championship.

  • Must complete the U.S. Center for SafeSport’s online training module by the first day of the 2025 FISO World Championship.

  • Knowledgeable about the competition rules and regulations of FISO World Championship.


Availability:

  • Must be available for the entire duration of the 2025 FISO World Championship.

This role seeks to provide the best experience for USAOCR National Team athletes for the 2025 competition season. The role seeks to ensure the best possible representation and performance of the National Teams at the 2025 FISO WC (September 11-14, 2025) and other World Obstacle/ FISO International Competition. The role will be split to cover either XC or Track.

The National Team Assistant Coach Application is a one-year contract with an extension option available, pending a maintenance of good standing with USAOCR and World Obstacle and at the recommendation of the USAOCR Head Coach. Good standing is based on adherence to the USAOCR code of conduct, effective coaching performance at competitions, and remaining up to date on athlete development, (e.g. certifications, etc.), and athlete support. 


Role Responsibilities:

  • Work in conjunction with the Head Coach throughout the 2025 Competition Season

  • Provide on-site support and act as a resource for either XC or Track National Team members, including Para athletes, during the FISO WC.

  • Provide training guidance and support to all XC or Track athletes including Para athletes throughout the 2025 competition season

  • Act as liaison between USAOCR Board of Directors and XC or Track National Team athletes

  • Participate in all coaches and delegate engagements at the FISO WC.

  • Serve as an effective facilitator when coordinating with personal coaches of XC or Track athletes.

  • Direct communication with World Obstacle for all XC or Track athletes

    • Manage all athlete protests at either XC or Track FISO WC events

    • Communicate with WO regarding any athlete penalties or disqualifications

    • Communicate all rule and timing updates to all athletes

  • Ensure all XC or Track members’ compliance with all rules regarding personal conduct during the FISO WC. Assistant Coach will escalate any concerns for behavioral misconduct to the USAOCR Board of Directors for further consideration.

  • Fulfill all FISO USA Delegate duties and responsibilities, including attending all relevant meetings.

General Requirements:

  • Must have a valid passport that remains valid for at least six months after the FISO WC concludes.

  • Excellent administrative, communication, and organizational skills.

  • Willing to work with other coaches to host trainings for athletes throughout the season and to provide additional coaching and training opportunities for the USAOCR National Team including para athletes

  • Must be able to take direction, work as a team, and work independently

  • Possess high-level, specific technical and tactical knowledge of OCR.

  • Competent in effectively communicating via email, phone, text, or other messaging platforms.

  • Hold a current certification with USAOCR and/ or have substantial experience as a OCR coach at major events within the last four years.

  • Up-to-date on current OCR, training, and running coaching methods 

  • Have experience coaching athletes at international competitions.

  • Display a deep understanding of all disciplines related to the OCR

  • Proven ability to establish and maintain harmonious relations with athletes and other team personnel.

  • Knowledgeable about the competition rules and regulations of FISO World Championship.

  • Must participate in the required anti-doping training by the first day of the 2025 FISO World Championship.

  • Must complete the U.S. Center for SafeSport’s online training module by the first day of the 2025 FISO World Championship.
