Coaching Certification

Coach Education and Development

Coach Education is through the World Obstacle Coach Development Framework. This is an international program with four levels and five key objectives:

  • To grow and develop the sport globally by making coach education accessible to all National Federations (NF’s) and their members, thereby providing athletes with the opportunity of working with coaches at a level that suits their needs;
  • Provide a framework for coach education and development for NF’s to develop obstacle sports through athlete and coach development from grassroots  to high performance;
  • Provide a coach development system from grassroots to high performance, providing tools to increase coach’s competence and effectiveness through international standards,
  • To provide a mechanism whereby coaches can progress along the coaching pathway

Level 1 prerequisites: Courses are for coaches with proficiency teaching and training athletes. We suggest a minimum of 12 months experience as a certificated coach in strength and conditioning, athletics, triathlon, OCR or similar. Entry to Level 1 is through a foundation exam and approved prerequisites.

Note: Completing 24 hours of course content awards a certificate of completion for each course level.

Level 2 Certification requires 100 hours of teaching practice applying the Level 2 course content, 85% pass on a written test and practical evaluations by a World Obstacle Coach Certifier. Level 2 is for full time coaches who train recreational to age group athletes.

Level 3 Certification, requires 24 hour Level 2 course and have an additional 200 hours of coaching practice applying the Level 2 course content, pass a written test and practical evaluations. Level 3 is for professionals who train competitive athletes.

Level 4 Certification requires 400 hours of teaching practice applying the Level 3 course content, 85% pass on a written test and practical evaluations by a World Obstacle Coach Certifier. Level 4 is for full time professionals who have specialised and train national team / international elite athletes.
