COLORADO SPRINGS, COLORADO — United States Obstacle Course Racing today announced its inaugural National Championship is scheduled for Oct. 12-13, 2024, at Rocky Face Ridge in Dalton, Georgia.
In partnership with Phoenix Race — a well-established regional OCR brand — USAOCR is bringing racers a first-of-its-kind, sanctioned event to celebrate and challenge OCR athletes across the nation. The course will feature obstacles from several OCR brands, ensuring a challenging and competitive race for Team USAOCR hopefuls and others who toe the start line.
Elite and Age Group 3k heats will take place on Saturday, Oct. 12, with Elite and Age Group 15k racers hitting the course on Sunday, Oct. 13. A 5k fun run is also slated for Saturday afternoon.
Winners of the Elite 3k and 15k events will qualify for the 2025 USAOCR Elite Team. Top-five finishers can expect payouts from a prize purse of thousands of dollars.
“We’re excited to be partnering with Phoenix Race and to have the support of several other OCR race directors to launch the first federation-sanctioned US National Championship,” said Jason Stanley, USAOCR chair. “This event provides our athletes with a qualification pathway for international competitions requiring support from their National Federation. I’m grateful to the Board of Directors and committee members who volunteer their time and energy to ensure our athletes have the opportunity to represent OCR at the international level.”
Located 80 miles north of Atlanta and 25 miles south of Chattanooga, Rocky Face Ridge is a 1,000+ acre park full of Civil War history, hiking trails, picnic pavilions, restroom facilities, state-of-the-art mountain trails and some of the most beautiful views in Georgia.
"We are thrilled to bring the USAOCR National Championship to this beautiful property that provides challenging and technical trails along with some of the best obstacles in the sport. Different brands coming together to present this event gives the participants a variety of the best in OCR," said Julie Wolff, race director of Phoenix Race OCR.
